President and CEO
Horizontal Wireline Services’ President and CEO, Joseph Sites, is an industry-recognized entrepreneur and leader in oilfield services who is well known for creating organizations that excel in service quality, safe operations, and delivering the best-in-class performance to its customers.
With direct experience in all facets of the industry, from field and engineering to operations management and executive leadership, Mr. Sites boasts a proven track record of business growth and development in both private and public arenas, having served on the boards of multiple companies, and founding two successful wireline service companies prior to assuming leadership of Horizontal Wireline.
After graduating with a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Sites began his career with Schlumberger Wireline, where he is credited for implementing global service quality control measures for the company and was honored for superior operational execution and safety. Following a rapid rise to become Schlumberger’s Operations Manager for the Barnett Shale, the Pennsylvania native next served as Business Development Manager for J-W Wireline Company. Mr. Sites spearheaded and developed fundamental service quality, safety initiatives, and introduced new technology that made J-W Wireline the fastest growing US based wireline company of 2007. Mr. Sites then founded Hotwell Services in 2008 before forming Horizontal Wireline Services in 2010.
At Horizontal Wireline, Mr. Sites is recognized by his team as an excellent leader, coach, and mentor as his mission as a CEO is to train the next generation of leaders for the service industry. His vision and dedication for the company have allowed for Horizontal Wireline to be known for pushing the envelope in technology, advancements, service quality, and ways of working. His management style allows for all individuals to learn, grow, inspire, and stay motivated. He is not only a leader, but a friend to all who are part of his team.
Sr. Vice President
As Horizontal Wireline Sr. Vice President, Nadir Nery oversees a wide range of responsibilities. Armed with over 21 years of experience in all aspects of the wireline industry, he focuses his team on business planning, recruiting and retention strategies, support on new technology implementation, health and safety and ESG developments, and many other responsibilities for business continuity and growth.
Before joining Horizontal Wireline, Mr. Nery spent 14 years with Schlumberger, where he began as a Manufacturing Engineer, building offshore wireline units for the Latin-American market. While at Schlumberger, Mr. Nery held multiple positions, including Geo-market Special Services Manager, Wireline Field Test Coordinator, and many years covering open hole and cased hole field operations.
In March of 2014, Mr. Nery became the South Texas District Manager for Horizontal Wireline, where he handled personnel management, policies, standards and guidelines implementation, asset management, customer relations, and all related operational activities. Between the years of 2015 and 2017, he served as Southern Region Service Quality Manager, Southern Region Service Operations Manager, and Corporate Support Manager.
Mr. Nery has an Industrial Engineering degree from Universidad del Zulia and received an MBA in Sustainable Management from Anaheim University.
Vice President of Operations
As Horizontal Wireline Vice President of Operations, Ryan leads the team of District Managers to achieve the company’s goals and vision for the future.
VP of Commercial Operations
Michael McGuire, Vice President of Commercial Operations, brings 12 years of Horizontal Wireline experience across multiple departments, he drives operational discipline to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Before joining Horizontal Wireline, Mr. McGuire worked as a Facilities Engineer in the public housing sector. In January of 2011, Mr. McGuire joined the Horizontal Wireline team and progressed through on- site positions until joining the Service Quality Department in September of 2016. Mr. McGuire has also served as Field Service Manager and most recently, Northeast District Manager.
Mr. McGuire has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University.
Vice President of Service Quality
Horizontal Wireline Services VP of Service Quality, Blake Fenton, leads the team overseeing all aspects of client interaction, training, and quality control. As the youngest member of the executive team, Mr. Fenton aims to consistently introduce new and innovative technologies as well as cultural initiatives to help both fortify and advance the company’s already strong values.
Coming from The University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Mr. Fenton immediately began his career at Horizontal Wireline Services in 2012. He rapidly progressed through all levels and ranks of the company, and by doing so he now has a deep appreciation and understanding of what it takes to be successful in every operational position. Due to his intimate knowledge of the inner workings of all aspects of the company, he is invested in the growth and success of Horizontal Wireline Services, and all its employees.
As the Oil and Gas Industry continues to evolve and develop, Mr. Fenton aims to elevate and establish new industry standards that will further progress the company’s capabilities and values.
Vice President of HR
As the VP of Human Resources, the primary purpose of his role is to partner with the leadership team of Horizontal Wireline to deliver against the business and people growth objectives while promoting a high-performance culture. Among his responsibilities is to collaborate with executive leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals and identify ways to support this mission through talent development, management and retention.
Specifically, Mike oversees the Human Resource planning, staffing, talent management and succession processes, compensation analysis, 401k and benefit oversight, employee relations and leadership development and training. His focus is on people, both in developing staffing strategies and plans to identify talent within and outside the company, as well as developing appropriate policies and programs for effective growth and management of employees. Additionally, he will provide guidance and leadership to the human resource team with resolutions to human resource, compensation, and benefit questions, concerns, and issues.
Mike’s Human Resources background spans over 27 years, 20 of those in leadership roles with companies ranging in scope from national entities to family-owned companies. These organizations come from various industries including Information Technology, 3-D Additive Manufacturing printing, lumber distribution, HR leadership and coaching consulting and executive recruitment in the construction trades. He is a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in Sports Management along with a Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification. Mike joined HWS in April 2023. With his wife Linda, they reside in Monroeville, Pa.
Vice President of Sales & Marketing
As Horizontal Wireline Services’ Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Jennifer Schafer, oversees sales plans and growth throughout the company. She is an intricate part of identifying customer challenges, providing problem resolution, and developing the Horizontal Wireline’s overall strategic plan.
Jennifer has over two decades of experience in multiple roles in the oil and gas industry. She uses this wide range of experience in developing and overseeing the sales team’s efforts in building long-term business relationships.
Before joining Horizontal Wireline, Jennifer spent 16 years at Halliburton Energy Services, where she held various roles across multiple operating regions, ranging from Field and Operations, Technical Support, Business Development, and Sales for the Wireline and Perforating and the Completion Tools Product Lines. Upon leaving Halliburton, she joined Stuart Pressure Control as Regional Sales Manager where she helped grow Stuart’s market share in the Onshore and Deepwater areas.
Jennifer joined Horizontal Wireline Services in 2018 as a Sr. Account Manager and then assumed the role of Southern Region Sales Manager in 2022.
Director of Accounting & Finance
As Horizontal Wireline Services Controller, Joe ensures that the monthly financial results are prepared accurately and in a timely manner. He also is focused on protecting company assets and controlling spending. Mr. Dolney earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Slippery Rock University and an MBA with a Finance Concentration from Duquesne University. He is also a licensed CPA in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Dolney has over 30 years of accounting and financial analysis experience with both publicly traded and privately held companies. Though is his first time employed directly in the Oil & Gas Industry; he has past experience including eight years at a manufacturer that supplied machinery to customers in the industry.
Mr. Dolney joined Horizontal Wireline in 2021 and has enjoyed learning about the wireline industry.
New Technology Manager
Manuel Avitia has been Horizontal Wireline Services New Technology Manager, Since October 2020. Prior to taking this position, Manuel has taken several roles in the Wireline Industry, including Cased-hole Logging, Horizontal Pump-down Conveyance and Perforating, Open-hole Evaluation Services both in Land and Offshore.
As a Consultant and Entrepreneur, he has been involved in multiple integration projects of Power Electronics, automation Technology and Machine Software. His Mission in the oil and gas industry is to create a meaningful impact on the efficiency of the equipment utilized in the oil and gas services. He graduated in 2009 as a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer.
Business Development Manager
As Business Development Manager, Kathy’s mission is to enhance the company’s ESG progression and drive profitable growth company-wide. The diverse job role allows for her to work with different teams within the company and accelerate new initiatives.
Kathy graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and a minor in Geology. After graduating, she quickly began her professional career in Schlumberger as a Field Engineer, where she gained experience in operations in the Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Appalachian, and Permian basins. After her time in the field, she moved into an account and business development position focused on wireline services and equipment.
Kathy then joined Horizontal Wireline Services in June of 2022 to aid in operational and business execution.
Northern Regional Sales Manager
As Northeast Regional Sales Manager, Mr. Queen organizes and maintains sales operations, promotes company products and services, develops plans and strategies, and motivates the sales team to achieve workplace goals.
Mr. Queen’s experience prepared him well for his current position as he has filled a wide variety of roles associated with wireline services. Beginning his oilfield career in 1997 at Allegheny Wireline Services, he started as a Field Operator and quickly progressed to a Cased-Hole Engineer. Soon after a Weatherford International acquisition, Mr. Queen’s career excelled, and he held the positions of Explosive Safety Officer, District Manager, and Sales Representative.
Joining Horizontal Wireline Services in 2014 as a Technical Sales Representative, Mr. Queen’s progression path includes Northeast District Manager and VP of Sales & Marketing to his current role of Northeast Area Sales Manager.
Mr. Queen proudly served our country during Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War in the United States Navy with Honorable Discharge as a Petty Officer Third Class.
